loading the dishwasher in order to feel slightly useful !

its 3am and i can’t sleep and i definitely cant sand laying abou in bed staring at the time projected onto the ceiling.

not really worth blogging about but having screwed up my life in order to firefight a project at work the powers that be have decided we have to go back tomorr..err.. today and double check the 90 or so units (what units they are isnt important) we reworked on friday. not impressed.

given i was at work until 6 on thursday working on the process we had to do on friday i gave up my run in order to prepare for going away at the weekend knowing i’d be losing most of my usual friday afternoon. away at the weekend for a 45mile ‘race’ and then due to some inexplicable sense of loyalty to this project i decided i’d rather go in to work and sort the paperwork and reschedule the days holiday i had booked than take it.

now i really dont know why i bothered… ho hum.

clearly it was time to go home when my laptop spontaneously rebooted.

and to make things worse it was the wife’s birthday yesterday, i just about got time to sneakily buy a card at the motorway service station on sunday bu never managed to fill it out…. was hoping to get away early yesterday but no i was working on the pointless checking process.

even failed to buy flowers as i found i’d left my debit card in my pack at home after carrying it round the race.

a least the kitchen looks a bi better.

this is not a blog entry i wanted to be making really, i’ve fancied a weekend in copenhagen for a while but not like this.

returning from sweden yesterday our flight to copenhagen was delayed by an hour (although actually more in the end) meaning no chance to make our 40minute connection back to blighty.

this didnt really matter however as they had cancelled that flight anyway!

due to a sudden snow storm & freezing rain copenhagen was shut when we landed, most of the landing must have been on instruments as i had a prime wingside seat to see the sleet & snow in the landing lights. once we touched down the sleet hit the windows and stayed there, frozen where it landed to make a nice frosted glass effect.

for the first time in an aircraft i felt a jerky feeling as we deccelerated at lower speed along the runway, a feeling ive become accustomed two over these past 2 weeks of ABS testing on cars. must be slippy out there.
to make things worse the airport was chocca & we had to wait 45minutes on the tarmac before getting to a gate.. although not a gate as we had to wait another 20minutes for the bus.

once inside the airport all flights were cancelled. the transfer centre was a sea of irate people, it was clear we were going nowhere tonight. fortunately the company travel agency was able ot book us a hotel over the phone which just left us to get there & find it!

i have a supicion trains werent running so the taxi queue was…. long and winding to say the least.

i waited while my colleague investigated walking to it.. in the blizzard… in the end he managed to blag a lift form a guy behind one of the hire car desks. so when we should have been tucked in bed at home we were in fact tucked up in the bed of a hotel.. who’s owner was of.. confused gender to say the least.

knowing we couldnt get on the 8:30 flight back to birmingham we arrived at the airport shortly before 10.
queues everywhere!.. so we joined one shortly before 10am and waited….

and waited

and waited

and waited

a core group of us repelled all comers who would push in….

and after just over 4 hours we were at the front.

the afternoone flight to birmingham had been cancelled.. all flights to birmingham tomorrow are full…. so now i’m finally in the departure lounge with a LARGE beer awaiting a flight to heathrow.

at least i will be home tonight!
